MARCO ISLAND, FL— The Marco Beach Ocean Resort has achieved the American Automobile Associations (AAA) prestigious four-diamond rating. The resort has been open to guests only since December of 2001. “This is the first step on our journey to ultimately achieve five-diamond status,” said Joseph Freni, Jr., president of Gulf Bay Hotel Company. “To have achieved four diamonds within our first year of operation is significant. We will work very hard to add the fifth diamond.” More than 42,000 properties are evaluated each year to determine Diamond status. Each property undergoes an unannounced evaluation and properties receiving a Five Diamond for the first time are generally reviewed at least twice. AAA began field inspections of hotels and restaurants in 1937. The company provides more than 45 million members with travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services.
