INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Major brands such as Mondrian, Rosewood, Mandarin Oriental and others are growing abroad. Here’s a look at six of them:
Mondrian Doha and Mondrian Park Avenue
Sbe has opened the Mondrian Doha in Qatar and Mondrian Park Avenue in New York.
Mondrian Doha is sbe’s first hotel in the Middle East, leading the way for more growth in the region. Designed by Marcel Wanders, the hotel has 270 guestrooms; four restaurants showcasing local and international cuisines; an ESPA spa; and a grand ballroom.
Mondrian Park Avenue is located in the heart of Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. Initially conceived as an SLS designed by Philippe Starck, the 189-key hotel, managed by Journal Hotels, has contemporary guestrooms and suites, and a rooftop lounge with views of New York City. Coming later this month, Cleo, sbe’s culinary concept helmed by Chef Danny Elmaleh, will make its New York debut at this property.
Mondrian Doha and Mondrian Park Avenue are the fourth and fifth Mondrian hotels globally, after properties in London, Los Angeles and Miami South Beach. Additionally, the Mondrian brand has plans to expand in Dubai, UAE in 2019 and Playa Del Carmen, Mexico by 2020.
Rosewood Phuket
Rosewood Phuket, the brand’s first Southeast Asia resort, is set to open in Thailand on Nov. 2. The resort is located along a beachfront at Emerald Bay in southwestern Phuket and will offer 71 pool pavilions and villas that are set within the tropical landscape.
Each sea-facing residential-style room, will feature a private infinity pool and interiors that blend polished details and rustic notes linking East and West, contemporary and traditional, according to the brand.
Jumby Bay
Oetker Collection has added Jumby Bay Island to its portfolio. The 300-acre private island resort, located two miles from Antigua, is now open. As the new operator of Jumby Bay, Oetker Collection will manage the island’s resort, as well as villa and estate home rentals. With this addition, Oetker Collection expands its portfolio to 10 properties; Jumby Bay joins Eden Rock – St Barths as the brand’s second in the Caribbean.
Jumby Bay island combines an established 40-room/suite resort with 50 individually designed, fully staffed villa and estate home rentals. Villas and estates offer up to nine bedrooms, most with direct private beach access. Additional resort features include three white sand beaches, three restaurants, an exceptional spa and fitness facilities, watersports, two pools and five tennis courts.
Pink Sands Club, Canouan
Mandarin Oriental has rebranded the Pink Sands Club, Canouan in St. Vincent and The Grenadines. There are 26 Colonial-style suites and six four-bedroom Lagoon Villas, all with views of Godhal Beach and the Atlantic Ocean.
Following the implementation of Mandarin Oriental service standards, systems and processes, as well as several new design and branding elements, the resort will be rebranded as Mandarin Oriental, Canouan in the first quarter of 2018. The company will also brand and manage a portfolio of new Residences at Mandarin Oriental, to be located near the hotel and scheduled to be available in 2020.
Yotel Singapore
Yotel Singapore has opened, offering 610 rooms known as cabins across 30 floors. The first Yotel in Asia, the accommodations range from a premium queen cabin to a VIP view suite, which are outfitted with signature Yotel features such as an adjustable SmartBed, Technowall with mood lighting and smart TVs, as well as complimentary WiFi.
