SAN DIEGO—The Loews Coronado Bay Resort completed a redesign of its lobby, Bay Terrace, Cay’s Lounge, Market Café and Market-to-Go, wrapping up a nine-month-long transformation.
The renovation came on the heels of enhancements to the meeting space, corridors and guestroom bathrooms.
The total investment over the past three years was $12 million.
Jonathan Nehmer + Associates (JN+A) provided architecture and project-management services for the revamp.
“We are extremely pleased with the completion of this renovation,” said Jonathan C. Nehmer, president of JN+A. “The Loews Coronado Bay renovation is a shining example of how to maximize space to better serve the needs of the hotel and guest.”
Situated on a private, 15-acre peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and Coronado Bay, the resort is located minutes from downtown Coronado and is a short drive to San Diego. The resort includes direct access to the Silver Strand State Beach, three tennis courts, a private 81-slip marina, three restaurants, 440 guestrooms and suites and panoramic views.
Design firm BAMO, which handled the interiors, describes the style as “lively and fresh” and the hotel as a place guests will “feel at ease.”
According to the design firm, San Diego’s bay is central to the theme and one of the first things guests will see when entering the new lobby. A two-story chandelier of suspended glass is a focal point to the resort’s grand staircase and projects the time on a new signature clock on the lobby floor.
In Cay’s Lounge, a media wall with nine LCD flat-screen televisions broadcasts sporting events, while communal-style bar tables enable casual gatherings and networking. Outside on the Bay Terrace, oversize teak sofas are situated around fire pits. Cay’s Lounge new menu highlights craft cocktails, as well as local brews on tap.
The resort’s crescent-shaped Market Café features panoramic views of the hotel’s 81-slip marina. The restaurant menus were handcrafted by Executive Chef Mark Ching, who specializes in modern takes on classic comfort foods.
The adjacent Market To Go offers a casual atmosphere for all-day dining and features a communal table and intimate bar. Grab-and-go counters offer baked goods throughout the day, as well as a selection of gourmet sandwiches, salads, sweets and snacks.
