WASHINGTON—David Goldstone of LodgeNet Interactive Corporation recently received the 2011 John Whitaker Award from the American Hotel & Lodging Association and the consensus among a number of industry colleagues is that the honor was well deserved.
The award—which is named for the long-time hospitality veteran who served as the Chairman of the AH&LA Allied Executive Committee before his sudden death in 2007—was doled out recently during the Legislative Action Summit here. It is presented to an outstanding hotel supplier for their dedication to and innovation within the industry.
Goldstone, who is currently vp, sales & hotel relations for Sioux Falls, SD-based Lodge-Net, has served on the AH&LEF Golf Classic Committee since 1998 and was named a member of the AH&LA Centennial Committee in 2009. Goldstone is a 17-year veteran of hospitality who previously worked with Panasonic Hospitality and Australian manufacturer Tango Products USA.
“I’ve known David for 15 years and highly respect him as an individual as well as his commitment to the industry. He has been an active allied member since joining AH&LA, so receiving the award was further evidence of how well-regarded he is by his peers,” said Joe McInerney, president and CEO of the AH&LA.
John Shingler, president and CEO of ASFONA (the Association of Starwood Franchisees & Owners—North America) has also forged a strong working relationship with Goldstone and has relied on his expertise.
“We determined some time ago that ‘guest room technology’ should be one of our business ‘areas of focus’ and I sought the input of David to assist with our deliberations. Over this time David’s contribution has been invaluable to me personally and he has consistently demonstrated his comprehensive understanding of customer technology trends together with current and future demands,” he said.
Jay Schultz, senior vp, ICD Hospitality Group, also underscored Goldstone’s impact. “For nearly 20 years David has been a loyal client, trusted advisor and good friend to HOTEL BUSINESS®. I can think of no one more deserving of receiving the 2011 John Whitaker Award.”
