Las Vegas Monorail Might Benefit Timeshare Owners

LAS VEGAS— Lake Tropicana Timeshare Resort and Towers owners may benefit from the new monorail transit system that broke ground here last week when it’s finally complete in 2004, if a spur along Harmon Ave. to McCarran Airport is realized. According to Hurley Reed, CEO of MPTV, Inc., a California-based timeshare resort developer, “This is a great windfall for us. This $650 million project cannot help but make our property more attractive and desirable. As yet, we do not know the exact location of the station nearest to the Lake Trop property, but once onboard, timeshare owners will be whisked away in comfort to many of the most important attractions in Las Vegas. The monorail will be more convenient and reduce vehicle congestion on the Strip. We believe this ultramodern monorail will make a visit to Las Vegas an even better experience. We are thrilled that our timeshare owners will be…. beneficiaries of this transportation service.” Lake Tropicana is three blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip. As previously reported on archive.hotelbusiness.com, the monorail system is expected to link the city’s downtown area with the Strip along Las Vegas Boulevard. Currently a four-mile project set for completion in first-quarter 2004, the system is aiming to ease both pedestrian and automotive traffic, and reduce pollution. The monorail is designed to do a wide zig-zag down the Strip, making stops at such hotel/casinos as the MGM Grand, Paris Las Vegas, the Flamingo Hilton, Bally’s, the Las Vegas Hilton and the Sahara, as well as the Las Vegas Convention Center. Future monorail systems may include spurs into downtown and to McCarren International Airport.
