LOS ANGELES The Anderson School at UCLA has completed a study which found that sporting events in the area generate nearly $2 billion in annual revenue to the Greater Los Angeles Area.
The study, which was commissioned and presented by the Los Angeles Sports Council and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, shows a tremendous influx in cash from both team revenues and those generated by supportive hotels, restaurants and other retail establishments. The study cited the Rose Bowl as a prime example.
Data for the study was collected from 48 local organizations and show a 34.5% increase in total economic impact over the previous survey, conducted in 1996. (5/10/01)
