SAN FRANCISCO— The Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group has begun adding pet-friendly amenities to its properties, including in-house vets, use of therapeutic pet beds, and free “doggie” cook books. In most cities, the hotels have cleverly promoted the services through the local SPCA chapters who have thousands of well-heeled society members emotionally tied to their pets, according to Kimpton. Pet-friendly amenities vary from hotel to hotel. At the Hotel Monaco in San Francisco, for example, VCR rentals of “Lassie,” “Dr. Doolittle,” and other animal-inspired titles are available upon request. The Pacific Palisades in Vancouver allows its canine guests to play with bright orange Frisbees. Guests bringing their dogs to the Hotel Rouge in Washington, D.C. can spend $15 and get a heart-shaped peanut butter cookie and a map marking all the local fire hydrants for those all-important bathroom breaks.
