KANSAS CITY, MO In 2000, growth in occupancy rates here outstripped growth in the supply of available rooms, according to Horwath Horizon Hospitality Advisors LLCX. The turnaround had less to do with the city s ability to attract visitors and more to do with a conservative local banking industry that has become unwilling to finance hotel construction. For the first time since 1996, the 5.8% increase in occupancy in 2000 to 63.7% was larger than the 4.5% growth in supply. (2/12/01) SOURCE:Kansas City Star
