ATLANTA— Jameson Inns, a hotel real estate investment trust, and owner of Jameson Inn and Signature Inn hotels, has announced that RevPAR was $20.78 in December 2002, a $7.0 decrease from a month prior but a 1.5% increase from a year prior. In other news average daily rates increased $.12 for the same time in 2001, but decreased by $2.37 from a month prior. Following the trend occupancy in December 2002 increased by 0.5 points from December 2001, but decreased by 8.9% from November 2002. Smith Travel Research recently reported that preliminary December figures for the economy segment, where all Jameson hotels are categorized, show REVPAR flat to declining by 2%. STR has also estimated a 2%-4% improvement in the total U.S. lodging industry for the month, due mainly to significantly favorable comparisons of hotels categorized in the upscale segments, which had experienced large RevPAR declines in December 2001.
