ATLANTA— Jameson Inns Inc, a hotel real estate investment trust, and owner of Jameson Inn and Signature Inn hotels, announced that RevPAR was $30.33 in March, a 1.3% increase from March 2002. However, average daily rate decreased $0.29 for the month while occupancy increased only 0.9 points. Smith Travel Research recently reported that preliminary March figures for the economy segment, where all Jameson hotels are categorized, show RevPAR ranging from declining 3% to 5%. STR has also estimated a 2% to 4% decline in the total U.S. lodging industry for the month. To that end, the Jameson Inn brand saw a minimal 0.2% increase in occupancy between this March and March 2002. The brand also experienced a $0.51 increase in RevPAR during the same time span and a $0.73 increase in rates. The Signature Inns brand had a 1.8% increase in occupancy between March 2003 and March 2002. However, RevPAR decreased by $0.08 and rates decreased by $2.98 during the same period.
