WASHINGTON, D.C.— J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman/CEO of Marriott International ran the Olympic Torch Relay as more than 100 Marriott employees cheered him on Friday, Dec. 21. Marriott International is the Official Lodging Supplier of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. A tradition since 1952, the Olympic Torch Relay was adopted from an idea proposed by a chairman of the 1936 Berlin Games. The torch relay delivers the Olympic Flame from Greece to the host country. Between now and February 8, 2002, the Olympic Flame will travel through 46 states.
