NEWPORT BEACH, CA—Island Hotel Newport Beach, a 20-story, 295-room property in Newport Center, has completed an ambitious two-year renovation that encompassed all guestrooms, meeting facilities and public spaces. Launched shortly after The Irvine Co. took over the property in late 2005, the refurbishment was completed in phases and touched all areas of the 23-year-old hotel. Island Hotel’s new look was conceived by Los Angeles-based interior design firm Darrell Schmidt Design Associates. The most recently completed portion of the hotel’s transformation spans more than 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 6,000-square-foot ballroom, five meeting rooms and five additional meeting suites. The hotel was recently awarded the Automobile Association of America’s Five Diamond status for the 17th consecutive year. Island Hotel Newport Beach features amenities such as Palm Terrace Restaurant and Lounge; a 4,000-square-foot spa; a 3,000-square-foot resort-style pool; a fitness center; two outdoor lighted tennis courts; and over 30,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel is owned and operated by The Irvine Co., a 110-year-old, privately held real estate investment company based here.
