NEW YORK— As the industry debate continues over the best measurement of profitability— RevPAR or GOPPAR— it seems GOPPAR, Gross Operating Profit Per Available Room, is catching on. San Francisco-based Larkspur Hospitality Company has been actively using it since early 2002. According to the companys Director of Financial Analysis, Joetta Johnson, Larkspur uses GOPPAR because the measurement provides a clearer picture of efficiency, profitability, and the bottom line. The company uses GOPPAR with other key performance indicators in a scorecard system that allows properties to establish benchmarks and use it as a basis of comparison.
