SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO— Veteran company executive Willem Plegt has been appointed general manager of the luxury oceanfront InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino here. Prior to this appointment, Plegt had been general manager of the Crowne Plaza London, UK and before that, held a similar position with the Amstel InterContinental Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Plegt joined InterContinental Hotels and Resorts in 1984 at Inter-Continental The Barclay New York. Since that time, he has filled numerous management roles at InterContinental properties around the world, including Miami and Berlin in addition to his London post. In his new role, Plegt will be responsible for the on-going repositioning of the hotel, which was acquired by InterContinental in June 2000. The 402-room InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino has recently completed a multi-million-dollar renovation of its guestrooms and suites, and has also added a Club InterContinental wing and Club lounge.
