SAN JUAN, PR—IHG completed the $22.2 million renovation of the iconic Morris Lapidus-designed InterContinental San Juan.
The AAA Four-Diamond hotel’s renovation included upgrades to its 398 guestrooms and suites, lobby, meeting rooms and common areas.
According to the company, guestrooms reflect a combination of different tones of beige and blue symbolizing sand and sea, while decorative accents and wood details evoke the colors and architectural characteristics of Old San Juan. The public space provides a modern ambience for business meetings and leisure, and all meeting rooms were refreshed with a look consistent with the rest of the resort and feature digital signage.
“Few properties in the region offer the combination of an oceanfront location coupled with the business amenities featured at the InterContinental San Juan,” stated Alvaro Diago, COO, Latin America and Caribbean, IHG. “There is no doubt that this one-of-a-kind property will continue to define hospitality on the island of Puerto Rico and remain a key asset in the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts portfolio.”
The property is located on two miles of beach on Puerto Rico’s northern coast of Isla Verde, near to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.
“We are confident that the renovation has further positioned the InterContinental San Juan as one of the preeminent luxury properties in the Caribbean,” stated Gerardo Murray, VP/Distribution and Commercial Marketing, Mexico, Latin America and Caribbean, IHG. “Its location as both a resort and business destination is unique. We look forward to showcasing these enhancements to our guests.”
