CHICAGO—The InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile has completed a comprehensive renovation of the Michigan Ave. hotel’s Historic Tower, now officially named the Executive Tower. The $13 million renovation of 315 guestrooms and corridors, which began in January, marks the full renovation of the entire hotel, which updated 477 rooms of its Grand Tower and Presidential Suite in 2013 and 2014.
“We are thrilled to complete this two-year renovation and offer guests newly enhanced and modern accommodations,” said InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile General Manager, Raymond Vermolen. “Whether it’s for business or pleasure, the property’s updated rooms and amenities offer a complete travel experience for visitors.”
Designed by Simeone Deary Design Group, who led the property’s 2013 renovation of its Grand Tower and the 2014 renovation of the Presidential suite, the interior design of the Executive Tower combines many elements of architectural styles from the hotel’s origination as the luxury Medinah Men’s Athletic Club by the Shriner’s Organization. Although not religiously based, the Shriner’s commonly used Moorish Revival Architecture and a contemporary interpretation of this style reflects that in the renovated rooms.
Characteristic elements found in Moorish design features domes, lancet and ogee arches—all of which can be found throughout the hotel’s Executive Tower.
With a dramatic palette of whites and deep grays, complemented by pops of jewel-tone colors, the updated rooms create a modern, yet cozy respite for travelers, according to the hotel. The guestrooms also feature marble-topped nightstands, colorful chairs and throw pillows, shimmered wallpaper and textured headboards.
