WASHINGTON DC The Convention and Visitors Association here estimates that 92% of the citys 25,000 hotel rooms will be snapped up during inauguration weekend, a percentage that approaches the busiest tourist time of the year. More than two-thirds of the 50,000 hotel rooms outside the city are also sold out.
The average hotel vacancy rate during a noninaugural January is 50% and the inauguration is expected to pump $75 million into the citys economy immediately while boosting tourism the rest of the year. (1/15/01)
