LONDON— The Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA) of InterContinental Hotels Group has a new geographical structure. Headed by Richard Hartman, the recently appointed managing director, the EMEA region will comprise four geographical divisions in addition to a more streamlined and focused regional center. Each division will be operated as an individual business unit divided into the following geographical areas: UK & Ireland; Western & Southern Europe; Central & Eastern Europe; and Middle East & Africa. The chief operating officers of the divisions, respectively, will be John Bamsey; Heinz Strobl; Arie van der Spek; and Chris Moloney. The regional center, based in the UK, will support these divisions. It will provide efficient core services to each of the four geographical divisions including legal, IT, human resources, development, franchising, quality, marketing and promotional resources, according to Hartman. The new structure will bring “clarity and focus” to the EMEA region, Hartman said, and maximize “both revenue generating activities and cost efficiencies.” “Employees now have clear accountability and authority to get the job done and take the business forward,” he added. “The regional center will concentrate on how we do business and ensure the heart of EMEA, the divisions, are appropriately supported.”
