ATLANTA—Intercontinental Hotel Group PLC has named hospitality veteran Jim Abrahamson as president of its Americas region. Effective Jan. 5, 2009, he takes over for Richard Solomons, interim president of the Americas and finance director for the group. The full-time post had been left vacant by the death of Steve Porter earlier this year. Abrahamson was most recently head of development, the Americas, for Global Hyatt Corporation. He had a number of roles within Hyatt, most recently setting the strategy for the rollout of Hyatt Place. In his new role, he will report to IHGs chief executive Andrew Cosslett and join the Group Executive Committee.
