CHICAGO— Hyatt Hotels & Resorts will begin offering two additional selections from the Starbucks coffee portfolio. Hyatt guests will now have the option to choose from Shade Grown Mexico and Fair Trade Certified coffees, in addition to Starbucks’ House Blend. Hyatt noted that the added coffees are part of Starbucks Commitment to Origins, its “exclusive lineup of sustainable coffees that represents Starbucks’ holistic view of the way the company conducts business in origin countries.” Starbucks Shade Grown Mexico, developed in partnership with Conservation International, and Fair Trade Certified coffees “help protect the environment while providing economic benefits for local farmers and their families,” according to Hyatt. By offering these Commitment to Origins selections, Hyatt properties “are helping to make a practical difference in the lives of coffee farmers, as well as protect biodiversity in Chiapas, Mexico, the region where Starbucks Shade Grown Mexico is grown,” Hyatt said. “Hyatt is committed to offering unique food and beverage products,” said George Vizer, vp/food and beverage for the lodging company. “In addition to providing great coffee to our guests, we’re also helping to make a positive contribution with Starbucks.” Commitment to Origins is Starbucks pledge to provide the highest quality coffee while contributing to the social, economic and environmental sustainability of coffee production, according to John Culver, vp/general manager of foodservice for Starbucks. Hyatt said its properties across the country will continue to add Starbucks Shade Grown Mexico and Fair Trade coffees to their selections during the coming months. By mid-February, 43 Hyatt properties were featuring these coffees. Currently, there are 207 Hyatt hotels and resorts around the world.
