LOS ANGELES—Hotel Normandie, located on the corner of 6th and Normandie in the Koreatown neighborhood, has undergone a multi-million dollar restoration and is now home to 94 new rooms and suites.
The hotel’s grand lobby features a staircase, high-beam ceilings, a fountain, private library, piano and gathering spots perfect for taking in the wonder of the history and architecture of the one-of-a-kind building.
Architects Walker & Eisen, who also designed the Fine Arts Building (1925), the Gaylord Apartments (1926), the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (1926), the Oviatt Building (1927) and the United Artists Theater (1927), built Hotel Normandie in the 1920’s.
“When we bought the hotel, it was our goal to authentically restore it—to provide guests with a unique experience they won’t be able to duplicate anywhere else in the city,” stated Jingbo Lou, owner/partner Hotel Normandie. “We studied the original hotel as it was designed by Walker & Eisen, and then did our best to return the hotel to its original glory.”
Today, each floor of the hotel features photography from local historian/photographer Jody Miller, providing a pictorial tour of Los Angeles. Phase I is now open with 74 rooms featuring kings, doubles and suites with the remaining 20 to be completed this summer.
Each room features restored hardwood floors and art deco bathrooms, flat screen TVs, high speed Internet and an in-room coffeemaker with distinctive art pieces. Externally, the Renaissance Revival-style hotel attempts to blend with the contemporary feel of the neighborhood and is highlighted by its neon rooftop sign, brick facade and street-level spaces being designed for new restaurants and nightlife components.
“Koreatown is experiencing an exciting rebirth,” stated Larry Broughton, founder/CEO of broughtonHOTELS. “It is once again one of Los Angeles’ most notable and inspiring neighborhoods; complete with diverse culture and new restaurants, boutiques, nightlife and more. For the urban explorers looking for an authentic Los Angeles experience, staying at Hotel Normandie will put you right in the center of it all.”
