NEW YORK— Hotel executives from across North America and beyond will descend on the Big Apple for one of the hospitality industrys biggest events at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center here, which tandems the Fall Conference of the American Hotel and Lodging Association, which kicks off tomorrow night, and the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show, which opens on Sunday. At the AH&LA committee meetings this weekend, members will be looking for a briefing on the changes in Washington, D.C., with the Democrats taking control of both chambers and what it means for issues of importance to hoteliers, including tourism, immigration and rising the minimum wage, as owners look to extend the current good business cycle. Pre-registration for IH/M&RS as of this morning was at 13,500, a new record for advance registra tion. Commenting on the turnout, show manager Phil Robinson said it is apparent attendence by owner/development companies shows a strong willingness by these companies to plan next years purchases in anticipation that this years strong results will continue next year. A strong turnout from architectural and design firms that specialize in the hotel industry also is expected. HOTEL BUSINESS® will be on site to deliver updates on events during this three-day show at archive.hotelbusiness.com, as well as present the official Show Dailies on Sunday and Monday.
