HOUSTON— Hotel Derek recently rolled out several new amenities designed to make life easier for the business traveler. In addition to standard amenities including high-speed Internet access and choice of daily newspaper, the 314-room hotel here now offers complimentary overnight shoe shines and in-house clothes pressing, in-room FedEx supplies, complimentary bottled water to fit in a briefcase, transportation to nearby destinations and a business center. GM David Hill noted that the hotels staff strives to accommodate the business traveler. “Our mantra is to take care of the businesspersons comfort while on the job,” he said. Hill said that Hotel Dereks procedures are streamlined through the use of the latest industry technology. The concierge staff use Concierge USA and other Internet resources to respond to guests requests, he said. “For information to be available at the touch of a button to staff conveys to our guests that we dont just appear technologically savvy, but that we really are,” he said. Hill added that because business travelers often have erratic schedules, some of the hotels guest services are offered around the clock. Guests working late at night in area office towers may arrange courtesy transportation to and from the hotel, he said. Additionally, he noted that guests may access the fitness center and order room service 24 hours a day.
