NEW YORK The hotel rumored to have inspired the 1977 Eagles song, “Hotel California” is being put up for sale by its owner, Ray DeGennaro who bought the hotel in 1986 for just under $100,000. DeGennaro is looking to fetch $950,000 for the 16-room hotel that is badly in need of renovation. The hotel is located in Todos Santos, Mexico, which is becoming a hot spot for Hollywood stars and dot-com nouveau riche.
There is controversy over whether or not the shuttered hotel was truly the inspiration for the hit song, but nevertheless, DeGennaro said he has had several offers for the hotel at his asking price. (1/24/01)
