DALLAS— At the Six Continents conference being held here, Ravi Saligram, brand president/Americas, reported that Holiday Inn is launching a new prototype for small hotels that is geared towards breathing new life into the brand. According to Saligram, more than 40% the hotels in Holiday Inn’s portfolio, approximately 408 hotels, have been with the system for close to 28 years. In order to remain competitive with emerging brands, like Hilton Garden Inn and Courtyard by Marriott, Holiday Inn has launched a updated prototype to encourage more new construction properties. He stated that the brand’s recently launched prototype for larger-scale Holiday Inns has proven very successful in the markets it has entered, like the Atlanta Airport, Mexico, Sarasota, FL and Charleston, SC. “In all cases, they’re out-performing their competitive set,” said Saligram. The newest prototype is for developers looking to construct 130-room properties, featuring adaquate meeting space that fits on 2.5 acres. — Diana M. Rodriguez
