CHARLESTON, SC— Paul Keeler, vp of food & beverage for Hilton Hotels Corp., was named Menu Strategist of the Year by Restaurant Business Magazine. The announcement was made at the publication’s Menus 2004 Conference held recently in Charleston. This award was determined by magazine readers who cast their votes online. Keeler is among seven Menu Strategist winners selected from different segments of the restaurant industry. Honored in the hotels category, Keeler was joined by finalists David Sonzogni, vp of culinary services at Bennigans (Casual Dining); Maurizio Mazzon, vp and executive chef at Il Fornaio (Upscale); Calvin Harris, corporate executive chef for Arbys (Quickservice); Chad Congrove, executive development chef at Bob Evans (Family); Scott Davis, senior vp and chief concept officer at Panera Bread (Fast-Casual); and Danielle Price, national wine director at Smith & Wollensky (Beverage). Each honoree must have proven success in not only introducing new and popular items to their respective menus, but also showing innovation and generating financial rewards for their companies, according to Restaurant Business Magazine. A 30-year hospitality veteran, Keeler was named vp of food & beverage for Hilton Hotels Corp. in 1999. He is responsible for strategic planning for Hilton food and beverage operations at more than 2,100 hotels throughout North America.
