FORT LAUDERDALE At the opening general session for HEDNA on May 16, Caryl Helsel, the association s president noted the importance of “truly global electronic distribution.”
Jim Moore, chairman, Geo Partners Research, made a keynote address, discussing the ever-changing technology industry and its uncertain future. Moore said, “it ll be a tight year with a lot of uncertainty; there s a sense of uncertainty in the technology community regarding our fundamental roles.”
He also noted that, “if we [HEDNA members] want to stay at the center of the world, we have to make a mindset shift from a local focus to a global one.”
Moore urged members to be entrepreneurial and move their expertise into developing countries, which are currently discovering technology s possibilities.
To support his argument on moving into developing countries, Moore noted that there are currently 211 million non-English speaking web-users versus 192 million English-speaking web-users. He said by 2003, those numbers will grow to 560 million non-English speaking web-users versus 230 million English-speaking web-users. (5/16/01) Shannon McMullen
