LAS VEGAS— This year’s set of products on display at HD 2002 here ran the gamut from being ecologically sound, cutting-edge and high-tech to providing cost savings and convenience. For example, one noteworthy product on the show floor was the versi-chair (and vesi-stool) by Infanti, which utilizes interchangeable seat backs and cushions to allow for customization and reupholstering on the spot without any tools. The product was designed to aid hoteliers who need or want to change the look of a ballroom or meeting space quickly. Another new noteworthy product was the Max system by Milliken Carpet. According to Lee Blair, national sales manager, the new system of creating carpet was rolled out several weeks ago, and is really catching on in the hospitality industry. Max allows multi-colored carpet designs to be completed within a few mere weeks of ordering. Blair said several “large purchasing companies” came by the booth and commented that the system would help them out if a project runs short on carpet since there is no minimum to order. The company had also closed “approximately 20 deals” at the show, with the actual paperwork to be written up after the show. While Blair couldn’t comment on the new deals, he did mention that about five were in California. Envel Design Corp.’s President Quinn Mayer reported that business was brisk at this years HD. Envel makes an acrylic-resin material called Envelex Rain that can be used for ceilings, walls, space dividers, sconce inserts, etc. The material can be produced with various textures in clear and colored designs. Meanwhile, Ong Pacific (HK) Ltd is trying to break into the hospitality industry, according to the company’s product consultant Joice Fong, with its surfacing materials for walls, door panels, headboards and furniture which employ natural materials such as sugarcane, bamboo and beeswax. Terry Thompson, president of Impex Development, told HOTEL BUSINESS® that the company is unveiling a total bath design solution hoteliers can use when building or renovating a hotel. Dubbed Innovation & Solutions, the system provides an entire bath package from a single source, which provides hoteliers control over delivery and design, said Thompson. Thompson noted that business was hopping at the show. “The purchaser, designer and owner rep of one hotel project came in and signed a deal, which really doesn’t happen normally.” While he declined naming the project, he did indicate that the hotel was in the four- to five-star range and is located in Florida. Other products that merit a mention include the SunTouch electric floor warming system that can be applied under any type of flooring except nail-down hardwood flooring; Parquet by Dian’s new ecologically sensitive Roulette flooring system; the new Motiv bath accessory line by Ginger; the City Lights Collection of furniture by Thomasville; the soon-to-be unveiled 50-inch Sony plasma TV; and Crypton’s new Fusion fabric.
