MIAMI, FL— Given the downturn in lodging fundamentals, the keynote speaker on the second day of the annual meeting of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers advised operators to stress the basics.
Salamander Hospitality CEO Sheila Johnson told NABHOOD attendees that, by focusing on the basics of delivering high levels of guest service, employees will be better able to concentrate on their jobs and not be distracted by the poor economy and drop in travel demand.
Salamander, which owns and operates the Woodlands Inn in Summerville, SC, and Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Innisbrook, FL, is in the midst of constructing the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, VA. Originally scheduled to open in mid-2010, the opening of the Salamander Resort has been pushed back a year to allow time for travel demand to begin to rebound.
