MONTAUK, NY— The 109-room Gurney’s Inn located here, recently completed a $10 million renovation to 40 of its beachfront guestrooms. Phase two of the hotel’s refurbishments, which include upgrades to its restaurant and remaining 150 guestrooms, will begin this fall, said Ingrid Lemme, director of marketing for the resort. Lemme noted the guestroom renovations, which began this winter, updated all soft goods and some FF&E to maintain the resorts’ five-star rating. The ocean-view rooms reopened for business early this month, in time for the summer’s heavy beach traffic. In fact, the property will be featured in an ABC Network special being conducted on the Hamptons airing this Memorial Day Weekend. In a few months, the 76-year-old Gurney’s Inn will begin upgrades to its remaining rooms, including its five cottage suites. Lemme noted renovations will include adding hot tubs to some cottage patios and renaming the Skipper’s Cottage as the new Presidential Cottage, paying homage to the resort’s historical significance and the number of U.S. presidents who have vacationed at the property. In addition, the beach resort has recently hired a new executive chef charged with creating a new dining menu and new décor for hotel’s restaurant. The redesigned dining experience will debut this fall, said Lemme. Both the new guestroom and the restaurant designs were created by the DiLeonardo firm of Rhode Island. In addition, upgrades have recently been completed to the resort’s spa facilities, which represent only recognized Thalasso spa in the United States. “A few other resorts claim to have Thalasso, but are not recognized spas,” she said, noting the Gurney’s spa facility has a therapist on-staff to work with guests and is affiliated with Stony Brook Hospital as a center for alternative medicine. The Long Island resort’s Thalasso Spa, which means it is sea-based, features an Atlantic Beach seawater heated indoor swimming pool and Roman baths, along with individual tub sessions and seaweed treatments. Under the guidance the resort’s newly hired spa director, Sheryl Hartsoulgh, the spa has installed two new Thalasso tubs, representing a $50,000 investment. The spa’s oceanfront Salon Beauté has also been upgraded and offers manicures, pedicures, hair styling, facials, and waxings all in view of the Atlantic ocean. “The spa is our biggest revenue generator,” said Lemme, noting a growing number of people are becoming more educated about the ancient European salt water treatments. She stated that about 90% of the hotel’s guests utilize the spa and approximately 30% of the resort’s total revenue is generated from spa facilities. “Most people come for the healing waters,” she said.
