TOKYO— A groundbreaking ceremony was held today for the Peninsula Tokyo. Located in the Marunouchi district, the 315-key property is scheduled to open in 2007. Officiating at the event, which was a traditional Shinto ceremony, were the respective chairmen and board members of the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited and its partner in the Peninsula Tokyo project, Mitsubishi Estate Co. Limited. The event was also attended by executives from the building architect, Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei Inc.; the general contractor, Taisei Corp.; and the interior designer, Brennan Beer Gorman Monk/Interiors. The planned 24-story hotel will be the eighth in the Peninsula Hotels’ portfolio of branded hotels.
