Gran Meliá Victoria Hotel In Spain Achieves Certifications

PALMA De MAJORCA, SPAIN— The Gran Meliá Victoria Hotel on the seafront Paseo Marítimo here, has become the seventh Sol Meliá hotel to achieve ISO 9001 quality certification. At the same time, the Gran Meliá Victoria has been granted ISO 14001 certification for the implementation of its environmental management system. The quality of its services and the active involvement of its staff, together with the cooperation of guests and suppliers, have allowed the Gran Meliá Victoria to successfully complete an auditing process to obtain both certifications, according to Sol Meliá. In line with its policy of environmental protection, in 1995 Sol Meliá created its own environmental protection manual containing measures, which have gradually been implemented in company hotels. There are now seven Sol Meliá properties that have achieved ISO 14001 certification. They include: the Meliá Confort Montevideo (Montevideo, Uruguay); the Sol Magalluf Park (Majorca, Spain); the Sol Milanos-Pingüinos (Menorca, Spain); the Sol Pelícanos-Ocas (Benidorm, Spain); the Sol Falcó (Menorca, Spain); the Gran Meliá Don Pepe (Malaga, Spain); and the Gran Meliá Victoria. Nine Sol Meliá hotels have achieved the EMAS certification. They are: Sol Cala d´Or (Majorca, Spain); Sol Gavilanes (Minorca, Spain); Sol Pinet Playa (Ibiza, Spain); Sol Falcó (Minorca, Spain); Meliá Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain); Meliá Girona (Girona, Spain); Meliá Sitges (Sitges, Spain); Tryp Apolo (Barcelona, Spain); and the Gran Meliá Don Pepe (Malaga, Spain). In other news, the Gran Meliá Victoria recently began construction of a $6.2 million convention center. The facility will have 10 meeting halls and is slated to open in late 2003. The plans form part of a Sol Meliá strategy to diversify its facilities in the Balearic Islands and the reduce seasonality in its business, while also further demonstrating the company’s commitment to quality tourism in the islands, according to Sol Meliá.
