BEVERLY HILLS, CA—Gemstone Hotels & Resorts has reopened the 49-room Mosaic Hotel here following an eight-month, multimillion-dollar renovation.
The new interior design by Luxlo, a London-based design firm specializing in luxury hotels, blends California whimsy with European sophistication, according to Gemstone, which noted that the Mosaic renovation was Luxlo’s first in the United States.
“Mosaic enjoys a very discerning clientele, and we were careful to incorporate their suggestions and preferences in all of our renovation decisions,” stated Jeff McIntyre, principal of Gemstone. “The result is a welcoming, design-forward boutique hotel with the latest technological conveniences that will meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers.”
According to Tim King, Luxlo’s principal designer, the use of bright colors, ultra-modern artwork and whimsical wallpapers celebrates the California spirit, while a bowler-hatted doorman is a nod to more traditional elegance. Original artwork and custom silk embroidered wallpaper also were incorporated.
Guestrooms are outfitted with low-slung chairs, Nespresso machines, bedside lighting controls and media hubs, electronic “do not disturb” signs and an entertainment system designed to interface with a guest’s personal devices. In the bath, rainfall showerheads and palm trees on the walls remind guests of the destination.
“The Mosaic has long been known as a chic, intimate retreat in the middle of one of the greatest cities in the U.S.,” said Thomas Prins, principle of Gemstone. “With this renovation, we set out to enhance that reputation, and I think guests will agree that we’ve amped up the style and sophistication while retaining the hotel’s neighborhood feel.”
