ATLANTA Phoenix Tower, a former Georgia State University dormitory, has been converted into a 416-room, full-service convention hotel. The property, now called Atlanta Capitol Plaza, cost $10 million, or about $25,000 per room to renovate.

The new hotel plans to capitalize on what is predicted to be a strong year for citywide conventions here. It is being run by Ridgewood Hotels Inc. and is owned by Hamid Jahangard, a real estate developer. (2/23/01)
