HOLLYWOOD, FL The 1,000-room Diplomat hotel and adjacent convention center here, which covers 217,000 square feet, will not be finished in time for its first booked convention- the Amateur Athletic Union conference scheduled for September 26-29.
This is only one of over a dozen conventions and meetings that will be rescheduled this year due to continuing delays in completing the Diplomat, according to a spokeswoman for Jones Lang LaSalle. Currently, the firm expects the Diplomats convention center to open by January 2002. But it still does not have a definite completion date for the 39-story hotel. Construction work on the Diplomat complex began in 1998, and the hotel was originally scheduled to open at the end of 1999. (1/31/01)
