CHICAGO— Groundbreakings will take place next month for five Hyatt Place select-service hotels. The new properties will be located near Seattle; Orlando; South Bend, IN; Reno, NV; and Jackson, MS. The hotels scheduled to break ground through February include a 158-room property in downtown Seattle being developed by Kauri Investments and InterMountain Management; a 117-room property outside South Bend being developed by First Hospitality Group; and a 128-room property outside Orlando being developed by Sunshine Hotel Group. The other Hyatt Place groundbreakings in February are for a 127-room hotel in Jackson/Madison, MS, being developed by InterMountain Management; and a 127-room property at Reno International Airport also being developed by InterMountain. By late March, there will be a total of 50 converted Hyatt Place hotels open around the country, reported Jim Abrahamson, senior vp, acquisitions and development, Global Hyatt Corp.
