NEW YORK— The large loss of office space in New York from the devastation of the World Trade Center has left many firms hunting for new home territory. According to a report in Newsday Sept. 19, many of these companies are turning to hotels for a place to work. According to the paper, Lehman Brothers Holdings is taking over 650 rooms at the Sheraton Manhattan Hotel, located at 52nd Street and Seventh Avenue, to give its investment bankers a place to work. Industry sources said that several other firms are also cutting similar deals with hotels in the area, as they try to get back to business. HOTEL BUSINESS® has learned that Unisys, a technology solutions provider, has been hired to install high-speed Internet access at the Sheraton Manhattan to get the rooms wired for the investment bankers. Unisys said that it expects to have the hotel completely wired by Friday, Sept. 21— that is just five days from when installation work commenced. —Shannon McMullen
