DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY—According to new data from Trivago, New York City is the most popular and most expensive destination for international visitors this fall. Additionally, Florida is popular with locals—travelers to Kissimmee and Orlando are searching for the longest stays—and hotel guests from the U.K. account for the largest group of inbound travelers.
This fall, 57% of all search inquiries to U.S. destinations have been made by American residents traveling domestically. Based on search volume, U.K. visitors make up the biggest group of international travelers followed by visitors from Canada, Germany, Brazil, Australia, Argentina, Japan, Mexico, France and Italy.
While New York City is the most searched destination among international travelers heading to the U.S., locals prefer Las Vegas. Orlando takes third position in both rankings and other favorite destinations differ remarkably between the two groups of travelers. On a state level, Florida, followed by Nevada and California, are the most searched destinations for U.S. travelers.
International travelers heading to NYC will pay an average room-night-rate of $268, which is 64% more than what they would pay for a night in Las Vegas. On the contrary, the lowest average clicked price is for Kissimmee, at $73.
Lenka Trckova, industry management U.S. & Canada, hotel relations, said, “Our data also reveals that travelers will take the longest trip to destinations with proximity to the famous theme parks. Inbound visitors traveling to Orlando and Kissimmee are likely to stay longest, searching for stays of eight and nine nights on average, respectively.”
The 2017 fall traveler trends are based on data gathered from trivago.com searches between June 1 – Aug. 2, 2017, for the period of Oct. 1 – Nov. 30, 2017, and includes searches for stay of three and more days. All prices shown are the average clicked prices selected by Trivago users for a standard double room.
