SAN FRANCISCO The Fairmont San Francisco is commemorating its $85 million restoration with a gala featuring eight-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist Natalie Cole and Tony Award-winning actor Michael Crawford, who played the lead in “The Phantom of the Opera.”
In addition to a restoration of all public spaces, the hotel s 591 guestrooms and suites have been refurbished. Highlighting the restoration is the re-emergence of the main lobby as grand public space. The Laurel Court and the Tonga Room are the hotel s two refurbished restaurants. In May 2001, The Fairmont will unveil The Crown Room as a spectacular private function space offering views of the San Francisco Bay Area.
M. Arthur Gensler, Jr. and Associates is the architect. Wilson & Associates, in conjunction with V.B. Designs serves as interior designer, with Page & Turnbull consulting on the historic preservation. Conversion Management Associates (CMA) is the project manager for the restoration and Plant Construction Co. is acting as the general manager. (2/8/01)
