MONTE CARLO, MONACO— Jan Schöningh has been named general manager of the Fairmont Monte Carlo. The 619-room convention resort on the Riviera coast, formerly known as the Monte Carlo Grand, has been under Fairmont management since December 2004, when a joint venture between Fairmont, Kingdom Hotels International and the Bank of Scotland invested in the property. Schöningh will assume his role effective March 1, and the property will be officially re-flagged the Fairmont Monte Carlo later that month. Prior to his appointment, Schöningh was general manager at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta, Canada. In other experience he served as general manager of the neighboring Fairmont Royal Pavilion and Fairmont Glitter Bay in Barbados as well at the Delta Beausejour in New Brunswick, Canada. Other previous posts include director of operations and hotel manager at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec. Originally from The Netherlands, Schöningh began his career in hospitality with KLM/Golden Tulip Hotels, holding a variety of posts at their Paris, New York and Amsterdam properties prior to joining the Walt Disney Co. He worked on the pre-opening and opening team for Disneyland Paris.
