NEW YORK— What is being described as a “one-of-a-kind” boutique hotel renovation is in the cards for the Buckingham Hotel on West 57th Street here. Set to debut on May 9 is the $9-million redesign of the Steve Shapiro-owned property’s façade, lobby and bar area, crafted to reflect the musical tradition of the site as well as that of the surrounding neighborhood. (The hotel’s neighbors include Carnegie Hall and Steinway Hall.) The work is being carried out under the direction of Paul Taylor, managing partner of architectural firm Stonehill & Taylor, which had previously revamped a Sheraton Four Points property here.
