SAN BERNARDINO, CA— According to the Business Press of Ontario, CA, Extended Stay America has signed a letter of intent to build a 105-room hotel on a 2.2-acre lot here. ESA hopes to begin construction in spring 2002, according to the paper, but before the $3.5 million hotel can go up, the property’s owners must clear the land of construction debris that had been dumped on the lot for more than a decade. Additionally, before construction can begin, the city’s development code has to be changed. The current code limits hotel stays to two weeks. The city’s planning department will review the code and propose an amendment to the planning commission. Upon commission approval, the project and the code amendment will be sent to the city council for final approval. No time frame has been set for the approval process.
