FRISCO, TX— John Q. Hammons has unveiled plans to develop a new $40 million, 320-room Embassy Suites Hotel that will be adjoined to a new 100,000-square-foot convention center and serve as an anchor for a new professional sports complex here . Construction of the 12-story hotel is expected to begin June 2003, followed by a grand opening in August 2004. The all-suite, luxury hotel will be owned by Mr. Hammons, and the hotel and convention center will be managed by Springfield, MO–based John Q. Hammons Hotels. The $300 million Frisco Sports/Entertainment Complex is a mixed-use commercial development that is expected to contain more than 1 million square feet of total space. In addition to the Embassy Suites Hotel development, the complex includes a $22 million baseball stadium, home to the double AA Frisco Roughriders for the 2003 season, and the $20 million Frisco Dr. Pepper StarCenter, the new training headquarters for the Dallas Stars NHL hockey team. Seated along the Dallas North Tollway, the hotel will be located within a mile of a new development made up of 4 million square feet of retail space and 1.2 million square feet of corporate space.
