INTERNATIONAL REPORT—This week, Mama Shelter sets out to expand its collection with Mama Shelter Belgrade, the Hotel Republic San Diego readies for its opening next month and there were hotel openings in Texas and Ohio.
The face of downtown Amarillo, TX, has a new addition with the opening of the Embassy Suites hotel directly across the street from the Amarillo Civic Center and adjacent to the Globe News Center of Performing Arts. It is a public/private partnership between NewcrestImage and the City of Amarillo.
There are 226 one-bedroom and studio suites; 18,000 sq. ft. of meeting space; a 10,000-sq.-ft. ballroom; an indoor swimming pool; and a high-end restaurant and lounge. A 750-space parking garage is adjacent to the hotel’s south side. Next to the garage, a 220,000-sq.-ft. multi-purpose event center is planned pending the city’s acquisition of a minor league baseball team, which is expected in 2019.
In addition, the Home2 Suites by Hilton Columbus Dublin has opened in Dublin, OH. The property has 126 suites and a range of tech-focused and eco-conscious amenities. Owned by Crawford Hoying and operated by Shaner Hotels, the hotel offers all-suite accommodations with fully equipped kitchens and modular furniture.
Amenities include complimentary internet, communal spaces and trademark Home2 Suites amenities such as Spin2 Cycle, a combined laundry and fitness area; Home2 MKT for grab-and-go items; and the Inspired Table, a complimentary daily breakfast.
The Hotel Republic San Diego is slated to make its debut in mid-October as downtown’s newest boutique luxury hotel property within Marriott International’s Autograph Collection.
The property stands on the historic site of the original San Diego Steam Laundry company building, which was built by Swedish immigrants in the late 19th century. Today, following a top-to-bottom renovation—from the former W Hotel to the Renaissance San Diego Hotel by owner Rockpoint Group and management company HEI Hotels & Resorts—Hotel Republic strives to transform the surrounding area into a social and business hub.
Mama Shelter has entered into Serbia with plans to open Mama Shelter Belgrade. The property will be located along Ulica Knez Mihailova – Prince Michael St., a notable pedestrian promenade in the Serbian capital, and is expected to open in early 2018.
“As Mama spreads her hospitality with new properties across the world, we continue to hold true to our commitment to only bring her to cities where we would want to live ourselves,” said Serge Trigano, founder of Mama Shelter. “A city where ice cream is served from 6 a.m., restaurants and bars are open until dawn, and it is safe to walk parks in the middle of night is a place Mama needs to be.”
With cutting-edge design elements specially crafted by Jalil Amor, the hotel will have 125 rooms. The decor will pay homage to the capital’s Ottoman history with kilim rugs on the floors and a palette of matte colors, vintage prints, and sofas that rework the Eastern Bloc aesthetic.
Mama Shelter Belgrade will be one of two Mama properties in Eastern Europe, with Mama Shelter Prague opening in early 2018 as well.
