ST. PAUL, MN—Ecolab Chairman/CEO Allan Schuman has been selected the “2002 Hospitality Executive of the Year” by the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society, the first time this national award has been given to a hospitality industry supplier. Schuman will receive the award on Nov. 10 at the 42nd Hospitality Executive of the Year Award Dinner at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers. The event will be held in conjunction with the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show in New York. According to Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society President Harvey Kamp, Schuman was selected for this award because of his ongoing commitment to service to the culinary, hospitality, educational and business communities. He is on the board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers, the Soap and Detergent Association, Hamline University and the University of Minnesotas Carlson School of Management. He is also an honorary trustee of The Culinary Institute of America and trustee emeritus of the National Restaurant Associations Educational Foundation, and serves on several corporate boards of directors. Previous winners include: Michel Landel, president/CEO, Sodexho; Marilyn Carlson Nelson, chairman/CEO, Carlson Companies, Inc.; Joseph Neubauer, chairman/CEO, ARAMARK; Henry Silverman, chairman/CEO, HFS Inc., now Cendant Corp.; Herman Cain, former president, Godfathers Pizza; Raymond Schultz, former president/CEO, Promus Hotel Corp.; J.W. Marriott Jr., chairman/president, Marriott Corp.; Barron Hilton, chairman/president, Hilton Hotels Corp.; and Walter Conti, a member of the Penn State Board of Trustees/retired owner of Contis Cross Keys Inn and Pipersville Inn in Doylestown, PA, and creator of the Conti Professorship in the School of HRRM.
