MCLEAN, VA—Hilton Worldwide has commenced construction on a new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in downtown Evansville, IN. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Convention Center will be the only full-service convention hotel available in the downtown area, which is undergoing a major revitalization, according to the company.
In addition to being connected via sky bridges to the Ford Arena and the Old National Events Plaza, the hotel will also connect with Indiana University’s expanded medical school, which breaks ground next month. The hotel is owned by HCW Evansville Hotel, LLC. A grand opening is planned for October 2016.
The five-story hotel’s exterior design aesthetic will be sleek and modern. The interior’s overall color palette and materials were chosen to pay homage to Evansville’s role and history during the industrial revolution as a top exporter of crushed stone. These elements will be blended into the spaces with clean lines but evoking a mid-century feel with a warm color scheme, according to the brand.
The 241-key hotel will offer amenities including WiFi throughout the hotel’s public areas and guestrooms, a 24-hour business center, a 24-hour fitness center featuring Precor equipment, outdoor pool and courtyard. More than 12,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space is available for social and business events including a 6,400-sq.-ft. ballroom next to 4,000 sq. ft. of pre-function space, two breakout meeting rooms and a boardroom. The hotel will also feature a restaurant and a bar and lounge on the first floor.
