RYE, NY— Overworked New Yorkers are managing to get away for a long weekend rather than not take any vacation, which is what most Americans are doing, according to Joseph Crimmins, general manager of Doral Arrowwood, a 374-room conference resort located here. Results from two recent consumer polls found that Americans are not taking all their vacation time and are opting for drive destinations rather than flying. Crimmins said hes not surprised at the findings. “People in our area are as overworked and overstressed as anyone, but we see a real uptick in weekend bookings. It makes sense that a hop on Metro-North or a 40-minute drive from Midtown or Long Island or parts of New Jersey are selecting Doral Arrowwood for a… resort stay without bucking summer shore traffic,” added Crimmins. Results from a survey of more than 1,000 consumers conducted by TeleNation, an independent market research and polling firm, showed Americans are giving back almost $19.5 billion in unused vacation time to their employers. On average, Americans give back 1.8 vacation days per year. A second poll of 500 consumers conducted by InsightExpress indicated 64% of consumers will be traveling this year by car to their vacation destinations, with only 31% saying they will be flying. The poll suggests economics rather than is keeping travelers from flying. “Doral Arrowwood is working hard to capitalize on this unique opportunity to attract new customers,” added Crimmins. The resort features a full range of resort facilities and activities including an extensive fitness facility, four restaurants, catering facilities and a Robert Von-Hagge designed golf course.
