OKLAHOMA CITY— An Oklahoma City developer has secured a franchise agreement with Holiday Inn to locate a hotel in the newly renovated Santa Fe Depot in downtown Oklahoma City. Although plans are still in development, developer Jim Brewer told reporters that a hotel would be a perfect addition to the depot, which was recently restored to its historic condition. A hotel would be a perfect complement to the historic depot, which has been offering Amtrak service to Fort Worth, TX, since 1999, Brewer said. Amtrak service was terminated in 1979 due to low ridership. New attractions, including the arena and renovated Myriad Convention Center, underline the need for new lodging in the downtown area, Brewer said. Under Brewers plan, the hotel would be located to the north of the depot and connected through a large lobby. The plan is to provide travelers with easy access to the train station, and also nearby attractions including Bricktown, the Myriad and the new arena, which are located nearby. That hotel will also needed, he said, if Oklahoma City intends to attract big events and conventions to the downtown area.
