CLEARWATER, FL Gerald Ellenburg, founder of Matrix Lodging LLC, hopes to open five high-tech Matrix eSuites Hotels by late next year, including a seven-story, 152-room hotel in Tampa close to the airport. His company plans to develop 30 hotels comprising 5,000 rooms within two years. Industry experts predict Matrix will have an uphill battle ahead, particularly because the economy is slowing and travel could slump as a result. According to a PKF consultant, Matrix may have trouble raising funding for the brand. (12/9/00) SOURCE: St. Petersburg Times
