SUNRISE, FL— Business- and leisure-traveling visitors to western Broward County here in the Sunshine State now have another 250 upscale rooms in the area to choose from with the opening of the new Crowne Plaza at Sawgrass Mills. Located across the street from Sawgrass Mills Mall, the new 10-story Crowne Plaza is owned and operated by Miami-based Cardel Hospitality Group. The property was developed as a joint venture between Cardel and Opus Corp., which designed the hotel and served as general contractor. The new Crowne Plaza at Sawgrass Mills features a fitness center, 24-hour business center, outdoor pool, same-day laundry, car-rental facility, a sports-theme restaurant and lounge, and more than 8,000 square feet of meeting space. Going forward, Cardel reportedly plans to replicate this restaurant prototype throughout the Southeast. Cardel companies have already developed and/or renovated a half-dozen hotel, resort and timeshare properties in the U.S. and Costa Rica.
